Sustainability Resources is delivering a Riparian Restoration Workshops from August 23rd to 27th (9:00am - 1:00pm). We will be in a classroom setting( location to be determined) from approximately 10:00 am to 12:15 pm each day. Lunch is provided and we will spend the afternoon planting shrubs from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm.
These sessions will provide an overview of the water cycle, the carbon cycle, and photosynthesis. We will look at how experts assess the health of forests in riparian areas and what healthy riparian areas indicate about ecosystem services. We will also look at important, common, and problematic communities of plants and how certain plants protect land from erosion.
We are bringing seasoned experts in to discuss land use, vegetation, carbon credits, and carbon modelling from Natural Resources Canada, Cows and Fish, Government of Alberta, and First Nations. This year we are also hiring a team of at-risk youth from the Youth Emergency Shelter Society in Edmonton to help plant shrubs and gain environmental work experience.
This project has the support of both the provincial and federal government grants and is committed to investing more than $30,000 into the region with public awareness, education, and restoration work.
